When Joy Feels a Little Harder to Find
Hi Friend,
I'm sitting down to write this week's Joy Edit, and honestly, I'm having a hard time finding the words.
This week has been a lot. Some really wonderful highs and some really difficult lows. My family is going through something challenging right now, and much of my heart and attention has been there.
I won't go into the details, but I will share that my newborn niece, who arrived prematurely, is currently in the NICU dealing with some complications. If you're someone who prays, I would be so grateful if you could keep this sweet baby girl and our family in your prayers.
As I've been thinking about what to write this week, I keep coming back to the thought that not every week feels like Joy Edit material.
Some weeks, it's easy to notice the little things. I'm working on projects, discovering new things, taking pictures, and collecting all sorts of moments I can't wait to share with you on Friday.
And then there are weeks like this one.
Weeks when life feels heavy. When the things that usually fill our days with joy take a back seat to worry, uncertainty, and the people we love.
But something I keep reminding myself is that joy and hardship aren't mutually exclusive.
As a Christian, my joy isn't supposed to depend on everything in my life going according to plan. It's rooted in something much deeper. My faith in a God who is good, who loves us, and who is present even when life doesn't make sense.
That doesn't mean I don't worry. Believe me, I do.
It doesn't mean I always feel peaceful or that I have some wonderful perspective on everything that's happening.
Sometimes trusting God looks like praying the same prayer over and over again. Sometimes it's admitting that I'm scared. Sometimes it's simply reminding myself that I don't have to carry everything on my own.
And sometimes it's choosing to believe that God is with us, even when we don't know what comes next.
I started The Joy Edit because I believe there is so much goodness to notice and enjoy in our everyday lives. And I still believe that wholeheartedly.
But I also know that real life isn't always neatly packaged into lovely little Friday newsletters.
There are hard weeks. There are unanswered prayers. There are moments when we're just trying to get through the day.
And there's room for all of that here, too.
So this week's Joy Edit is a little different. No big collection of creative projects or favorite finds. Just a note from me, asking for a few extra prayers and reminding both of us that we don't have to have everything figured out.
We can keep showing up, loving our people, noticing the good when we can, and trusting God with the things we cannot control.
Thank you for being here, friend. It means more than you know.
With love,
Denise 🩷
